Acat is the Goddess of Tattoos and a major antagonist in the 2021 Netflix limited series, Maya and the Three. She is Zatz's ex-girlfriend. She is a powerful warrior goddess tasked with capturing Maya and bringing her to Lord Mictlan. However, due to her overconfidence, Acat was defeated by Maya in battle, even after she used several dishonorable tactics to try and bring her down. This led Zatz to break up with her. Acat was later killed by Lord Mictlan as punishment for her failure.

Acat is haughty, condescending and had a very high opinion of herself. She is also dishonorable and did not believe in giving her opponents a fair fight, preferring to weaken them first.

History[]

Chapter One: Quinceañera[]

Acat is seen for the first time, having dinner together with the other gods and is seen sitting next to Xtabay Goddess of Illusions.

Chapter Two: The Prophecy[]

When Lord Mictlan orders Zatz to bring Princess Teca, Acat introduces herself and offers to accompany her boyfriend. Acat was confident that they would be able to capture her in no time. The two then tracked Maya to a clearing in the forest. Acat used a tattoo snake to burn Maya's map and supplies, intending to weaken her before the fight. Zatz was clearly displeased, though he didn't protest much. Maya and Chiapa, exhausted by starvation, met Ah Puch in the forest. However, Acat soon appeared, interrupting their conversation and engaging Maya in battle. Acat grew visibly angrier when she saw Zatz cheering for Maya. While she appeared to have the upper hand for some tie, Maya soon overpowered her. She then tried to kill Acat, but did not due to her morals. This greatly pleased Zatz.

Maya then reached Luna Island, but was again accosted by an irate Acat, who fired snake-tattoo arrows at the steps of Luna Island, intending to trap Maya. While Maya managed to fend her off for some time, she was soon on the back foot and was hanging on to a broken step for dear life. Acat, delighted at having subdued her, shot an arrow at her, but it was deflected by Zatz. Furious at Acat for trying to shoot Maya in the back, Zatz declared that their relationship was over. Acat, visibly heartbroken, stormed away, telling Maya that she would pay someday.

Chapter Four: The Skull[]

Acat returns to the Underworld and Lord Mictlan reproached him for his failure and demanded to know Maya and Zatz's whereabouts. Acat said that the princess escaped, but driven by her love for Zatz, she refused to disclose their location and attacked Mictlan when he refuses to send her back to capture Maya with Hura and Can. Mictlan, however, calmly ripped Acat's heart out, killing her. Before dissolving in a pool of solid god, Acat said that she loved Zatz.

Chapter Seven: The Divine Gate[]

Xtabay imitates Acat, supposedly as a mockery, making Lord Mictlan very amused, but the other gods don't seem to be amused, just as Zatz, Maya and the three warriors enter.

Physical Description[]

Acat is a teenage girl goddess with brown skin, magenta eyes and long black hair, based on the Chola culture. She has her entire body tattooed in the shape of a snake and they glow purple when she uses them to create weapons to fight.

Personality[]

Acat is not a nice person by any means, being incredibly violent and more than happy to toy with opponents. The only exception to this is Zatz who she loves dearly, but Zatz is more than turned away by her actions to the point that he breaks up with her in favor of Maya. It’s heavily implied that a lot of her animosity towards Maya is out of her own jealousy towards Zatz’s growing feelings towards her. When Zatz declares her dishonorable and breaks up with her right when she has Maya on the ropes, she leaves the battle immediately in tears.

Despite being nothing but vengeful towards Maya when they first meet and getting dumped by Zatz for her, she still refuses to reveal his location to Lord Mictlan, an act that ends up costing her her life.

Skills and Abilities[]

Strengths[]

Goddess Physiology:

  • Tattoos Manipulation: As the Goddess of Tattoos, Acat can create tattoos and manipulate them into solid hard constructs. She uses them to create weapons for combat. These weapons include two ink swords, ink snake whips, ink arrows and ink daggers. In addition to this, she can create giant ink wings for flying.
  • Immortality: As Goddess Acat she is immortal and does not age or die of diseases.
  • Expert Combatant: Acat is adept at close combat and escrima with her swords and ink knives.
  • Superhuman Durability: Acat possesses immense amounts of resilience, able to survive numerous hits from Maya without any injury. But she isn't totally impervious as she was stabbed by Maya with her own tattoo projectile and she was able to get killed by Lord Mictlan by stabbing her in the heart which turned her into gold ultimately leading to her demise.
  • Superhuman Strength: Acat possesses tremendous amounts of strength. She was able to lift up a tree with the help of her tattoos and swing it to create enough kinetic force and drop it at Maya with the intention of killing her.

Relationships[]

Zatz[]

Acat seems to be romantic with her boyfriend Zatz and loves him very much. But when Zatz breaks up with her when she was trying to kill Maya, Acat sadly leaves the battle. He returns to Lord Mictlan's temple and informs him that the demigoddess escaped and when he refuses to reveal where Zatz is, knowing that she still loves him, Mictlan kills her and she says goodbye to Zatz.

Lord Mictlan[]

Acat seems to have respect for Lord Mictlan when he promises to bring the demigoddess to him. But it is shown that she intends to betray him and to kill Maya herself, take her heart out and give it to Zatz so they can be together forever as she says herself, but Zatz prevents Acat from killing her knowing that he is in love with Maya.
